I sold every one of my LEAD FREE, EARTH FRIENDLY FLOWER ARRANGERS. Standard flower pins are made of lead and that lead leaches into the water. It doesn't hurt the flowers but if your cat drinks from the vase or if you are a steward of the earth read on.
Lead in drinking water must be below 15 parts per billion. Water in a vase with lead pin frogs for a week reached 4353 ppb and when the water was allowed to evaporate it reached 2-4 million ppb.
I use stainless steel flower pins - the metal does not react with the water. I'll put more photos up as soon as I make more vases.
